Artist’s
Bio:
Bill Dark is a Rogers resident and a chemistry and biology
teacher in the Rogers public school district. Although Bill
never received a formal education in photography, he has
participated in several workshops offered by professional nature
photographers in order to learn new skills and to stay informed
about state-of-the-art technology. Some of Bill’s photographic
awards include those from the Arkansas Department of Parks and
Tourism and the Arkansas River Valley Nature Partners.
Currently, his work is displayed at the Janet Huckabee Arkansas
River Valley Nature Center and the new Hobbs State Park
Conservation Area Visitor Center. His work has also been
selected for the decors in several health care facilities
located in Arkansas and Texas and have also appeared in such
magazines as Rural Heritage, Ozarks Monthly, Porsche Panorama,
and Celebrate Arkansas.
Artist’s
Statement:
Since early childhood
I have had a love for nature and the outdoors. Some of my
fondest memories are of those times I spent with my father and
brother quail hunting and fishing together in the Ozarks.
Arkansas' beautiful vistas, rich history, and amazing diversity
has been a constant source of inspiration. The wilderness
continues to be my sanctuary - an escape from the hectic
day-to-day schedule that we are all so familiar with. I learn
best by taking as many photographs as possible, then critiquing
my work to learn what is appealing and what situations to avoid.
I have found that there are three characteristics that take a
good photograph to the next level: a clean background, emotion,
and most importantly, dramatic light. I tend to like intimate
landscape scenes most, but have been working to expand my style
to include more vistas.
